The significance is that the ascendancy of Ehud in 1288 bce (see Figure 1) can be used as the terminus ante quem for the demise of both Eglon & Esau (then 62 years old, having been born in 1350 bce), and the Heresy of Peor would have happened just before. We might also have a terminus post quem for the Heresy. If the Book of Job details Jacob's losses at the hands of the advancing Hebrews in 1288 bce, and if the mentions of Satan¹ are references to Seti I, it couldn't have been before 1290 bce, when Seti became pharaoh. So we can fix the date for the Heresy of Peor at ~1289 bce.
