It looks like thunderbolts.info is down. This isn't the first time that I've seen a site take a dive after members started to splinter into different factions, and arrive at conclusions other than those intended by the people who set up the forum.

If such is the case, and the site isn't going to be brought back up again, or if it is brought up after trashing all of the old posts, as they did a couple of times in 2008, that's a true shame. A vibrant community has to be able to live and breathe — you can't decide for them what they are supposed to believe. Especially since the founding fathers rarely participated on the forum, and declined invitations to publicly debate the issues. You can't fail to tend to your flock, and then get pissed off when they wander away. ;)

Anyway, rest assured that QDL never had an official position, and never will. People believe whatever they want to believe, but it's better if they openly discuss their beliefs, so that they can get feedback, and learn something new every now and again. Intolerance of new ideas only breeds tenacity in isolation, which is never good for anybody. So while I might not agree with what you're saying, I'll defend to the end your right to say it, and I'll encourage you to say it publicly. I'll also encourage you to listen to constructive criticisms. But don't just keep it all to yourself — if it's good, others will benefit from hearing it — if it's bad, you get the opportunity to grow into more mature opinions. Either way is better than ignorance in isolation.

Dave Talbott emailed some of us a couple days ago saying the site would be down for maintenance. I didn't expect it to last this long. They used to have a lot of trouble with people registering just so they could spam the forum, but I don't know if that's what the maintenance involves this time.

By the way, Google was calling the site an attack site. I don't know if maintenance involves anything that could be considered malware.

Maybe (hopefully) I was just jumping to conclusions. If it comes back up, we can delete these posts as senseless conjecture. ;) But Abraham Lincoln was wrong when he said that it is better to be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt. :) Actually, it is better to be thought a fool by voicing stupidities, than to BE a fool for continuing to think them when a friend could have left you better informed. :D Cheers!

You think you sounded foolish and you don't care? I don't mind sounding or being foolish either. We need to start a Fools' thread somewhere where we and anyone can express truly foolish statements. The amateur fools will do it all wrong, but the experts can guide them aright. I can explain to them how to refer to anyone with an unusual, non-mainstream idea or theory as a crackpot.
