Times can be designated as such by selecting the text and clicking the time () button. If the selected text is a recognizable date/time format (e.g., 2014-06-14 02:39:03), it will be converted from your local time and stored in the database as UTC, while being displayed to you, and all other users, in the appropriate local time. If you do not specify the timezone, your current timezone will be used for the conversion to UTC, and thereafter, you'll see it in your current timezone.
Year numbers in historical format also get special treatment — if a four-digit year is followed by a BC, BCE, CE, or AD designation, it will be standardized to BCE or CE. Whether it is displayed in "roman" style (e.g., 19th C. CE) or "modern" style (e.g., 1800s) depends on the user's settings. Either way, the Anno Mundi equivalent will appear in a pop-up if you hover your mouse over the date. Please use a tilde (~) to represent date ranges, to clearly differentiate them from year-month-day formats.
