Creating Citations
QDL has a very simple way of doing citations.
  1. Navigate to a post to edit.
  2. Click the Action Menu icon (), and select one of the Edit options ().
  3. In another browser tab, locate the webpage to be cited. This can be another page in QDL, or any webpage on any other server.
  4. Drag a link into the full screen editor, dropping it where you want the citation to appear. (Most browsers allow you to drag the address bar icon into an editor to drop a link to that page.)
  5. With the mouse, select the hyperlink that you dropped into the QDL editor, and click the Citation icon () in the toolbar.
  6. The Citation Element dialog box appears.
  7. For a bibliographical reference, select the "bib" class, or just leave everything blank for a numbered citation.
  8. Click Insert.
When you save the page, you'll see that the hyperlinks will display as citation marks. Then, at the bottom of the screen, there will be a References block that shows the author, date, and title of the citation.

QDL also supports the specification of the relevant page number in a citation. This is a great convenience to other scholars, especially if a book or long article is cited in support of a single contention. (Many authors find this practice to be of use just for themselves, when they go to double-check the relevance of their own citations.) Yet most style manuals discourage listing relevant page numbers in the references block, so these should appear with the citation marks. To designate page numbers, enter them into the ID field of the Citation Element dialog box. QDL will then append these to the citation marks. The following conventions are recommended.

4 :§7:9 4:§7:9 reference 4, section 7, page 9

The same thing can be done for bibliographical references. We recommend that these are more spelled out.

We also encourage pasting the relevant quote into the RIS record, at the end of the abstract field, if it isn't too lengthy.
