Funny that you should put it this way. :) Yesterday evening my brother stopped by, and I was explaining some of this stuff to him, and I told him that "like-likes-like" is the organizing principle of the Universe, from covalent bonding of atoms into molecules, to Pollack's liquid crystal water, to solar systems and galaxies, and even in sociology, where male bonding occurs due to a mutual attraction to the opposite sex! :) And that conversation was going on at pretty much the same time you were authoring your post! Psychokinesis — wow!

 

You're right — it's confusing. This all comes from Richard Feynman, who presumably intended for it to sound paradoxical. It's explained in more detail in the Accretion section, but I'll try to make this section clearer too.
