Sometimes when linking to somebody else's post, it is desirable not to link to the latest/greatest version, but rather, to a specific version. For example, if you're quoting someone else, and making comments on the quote, you'd rather that the original source still be making the same statement(s). You don't want the current version, which might say something altogether different.
To link to a specific version, in the
Version box select the second option, and then click the calendar icon (
) to open a new window showing all of the previous versions of that post. Copy the timestamp and paste it into the box.
Once a version link has been created, the creator of the source post cannot delete that version, and subsequent modifications to the current version will not affect the version link. So the link will continue to work, until/if/when the author actually deletes the entire post, in which case a "[no post found]" message will appear wherever there was a version link.
If you want to link to just one paragraph in another page, and not the whole post, enter a number into the Paragraph # box. You can also specify a paragraph range, such as paragraphs 2-4.
If paragraph numbers have been specified, you can also designate that a particular sentence number is to be bolded.
