Esau married two Hittite wives, who made life difficult on Isaac & Rebekah. So Rebekah hoped that Jacob wouldn't marry a Hittite as well, and Isaac told Jacob to marry somebody from Rebekah's clan in Mitanni. Then Esau married one of the daughters of Ishmael. |

Jacob moved to Mitanni, not because he was fleeing Esau's wrath after tricking him out of his birthright, but just because Esau was the heir apparent, and there wasn't anything for Jacob in Canaan. |

Jacob married Leah and Rachel, and worked for Laban for 20 years. |
