Given a cloud of hydrogen atoms, why would not the atoms tend to align in filaments end-to-end, as in + - + - + - etc, instead of in cells? Looks to me like they'd be less likely to form cells and would be considerably more likely to form filaments that start small and keep growing, both in thickness and length. After all, your Accretion paper seems to suggest too that filaments would be the more natural formation.
