The "Transmission Control Protocol" is one of the core protocols for data exchange over the Internet, supporting such higher-level protocols such as HTTP, FTP, DNS, DHCP, IMAP, IRC, LDAP, POP, and SMTP. While such higher-level protocols handle specific application-level needs, the lower-level TCP protocol is used if there isn't already a higher-level protocol for that purpose.

Currently, the only QDL feature that operates at the TCP level is database queries, or "reports."
