If the charge separation mechanism inside the body is pressure, and if the pressure changes, the depth at which electron degeneracy pressure (EDP) becomes effective changes as well. If the pressure increases/decreases, electrons are expelled/re-absorbed. If the pressure changes on a regular basis, electric currents will flow on a regular basis, generating ohmic heating. Thus the planet develops an internal heat source. This will level the irregularities in the surface, since the pressure under mountains is greater, and thus there is more charge separation, and more ohmic heating, which melts the foundation of the mountains, allowing them to subside to a level that is closer to that of the plains.
