Decent ideas can get lost in long discussions.

After the fact, it's tough to read a long thread, wondering if the points that sound decent were later superceded. Yet you can't just fast-forward to the conclusion, because later statements assume familiarity with previous statements. So you have to read the whole thing. But that includes senseless off-topic babbling, flooding, and misdirection (sometimes innocent, and sometimes devious).
