When I first click on a pink gear to do editing etc, the top of the popup menu is off the top of the page. I have to click outside the menu and then click on the gear again to get the popup menu to appear in the right position.*5983

I'd like to be able to find my posts in reverse chronological order.*6726

I think that this only happens when clicking the action menu icon in a sub-window. So the sub-window click event doesn't know that it's in a sub-window until the second click?

I bumped your account up to the "pro" level, so that you have access to reports. So go to:

QDL / My... / Reports

There are two reports already there: "Last Created" and "Last Modified". These are very useful. ;)

UPDATE: You can now also just click on any user's name, to go to that user's profile page, and at the bottom is a list of all of that user's posts (that are visible to you) in reverse chronological order. And you can even click on your own name, to see your own posts. ;)

I had a problem with deleting a forum thread and not being able to undelete it. I meant to delete it in only one place and to keep it in another place.

To delete something in one place and keep it in another, you should just "cut" it, instead of "deleting" it.

How do you paste in a picture?*9951 Like an actual picture and not a link. I've seen some folks do it and couldnt get it to work and I didn't see anything in the help files.

You should be able to copy a picture from somewhere else (i.e., another browser window, or a document open in another type of app) using the keyboard shortcut (e.g., on Windows, Ctrl-C), and then paste it into the QDL editor with the corresponding command (e.g., on Windows, Ctrl-V).

I'll bump up your space limit to 10 MB, if you promise not to abuse this capability. Registered users get 1 MB of space for free, which is plenty if you are only entering text, but doesn't leave much room for images. This is a necessary restriction, since I have to pay for space on the server, and I'd run out of space instantly if I allowed unrestricted image uploads for free. ;)

Ok thanks. I don't really need the 10mb of space, I just couldn't get cut-copy-paste to work before. Maybe the pic I was trying to paste was too big. I'll try it again sometime. Feel free to bump me back down if you need to. Thanks!

Charles, you have 2 threads here with these titles:

Sample Survey
Importing a Forum Thread

I think they'd be clearer if they said:

How to Make a Survey plus I Show a Sample Survey
How to Import a Thread from Another Forum

You may be able to improve on those titles too, I'm sure.

Charles, in Brant's solar model thread at http://qdl.scs-inc.us/?top=4741-4760-5079-9484-9454-9840-8919-6961-9927-9548 his posts are showing up as subposts. Can you make them show up as posts and can you make it easier to tell a subpost reply button from a post reply button? I suppose the subpost reply button may be needed for something, but I'm not sure. Are you?*11217

It could be that the internet connection here is pretty weak, especially when it rains, like last night.

By the way, I found your quasar paper*18298 last night after I posted your stuff from the TB forum. So maybe my efforts were redundant. I'll try to read that paper soon.

Is there an easy, quick way to go to the original root directory of a page on this website?*18300

I'm learning to copy and paste links. I pasted a link to my Blog and a link to this area (Public Discussions) into my Sandbox. The root directory to this page from my Sandbox is now:

QDL / My... / Sandbox / Public Discussions

The root directory I'd like to be able to go to easily for the original page is:

'13-05-09, 20:21

When I click on Public Discussions, is there or could there be an option for getting the Original Route? Also, if the page is copied in several places, more than two, on this site, could there be an option for getting any of those Alternate Routes? The reason this seems to be potentially helpful is that I could then click on any of the parts of the other routes (root directories) to get to those pages quickly. Like, if I'm in the Sandbox and wanted to go to the original Public Discussions page directory, I could then go to the Science Improvement Team Space (SITS) page, in case I wanted to go to another subpage there.

Did I explain my question well enough?

Yes — the quickest way is to do it in the address bar. Each of those numbers corresponds to a step in the path, from the root (i.e., "QDL") to the post in question (in your case, the "Public Discussions" folder). As you have seen, if you paste a link somewhere else, now you have a new way of getting to something, and thus there is a new path. So you want to find the original path, and here's the trick: remove all of the other numbers from the address, except the last one, and then hit the [enter] key so that QDL refreshes the page. So if the path is...

?top=4741-4436-7188

...change it to...

?top=7188

When QDL sees that the path isn't specified, it will fill one in for you, and this will be the original path (typically where the item was created in the first place). Of course, that might not be where you found the item — you might have pasted a link from a secondary location, but QDL will find the actual original.

If you want to find all of the paths, click the gear icon, and next to Metadata, click "edit" (or "more" if you don't have edit rights). In the "Parents" section, all of the paths will be shown. If you have edit rights to the item, and you want to set the original path, click the radio button next to it. When you submit the form, that path will get designated as the original path.

I copied the link to Public Discussions under SITS to my Sandbox the other day and now somehow in the copy of Public Discussions in the Sandbox it now has a copy starting at QDL, the beginning of the Root Directory, instead of just Public Discussions. So under my Sandbox copy of Public Discussions, it starts with and it has a copy of the Sandbox under that. I think it's a recursion, so I'm guessing there's an infinite series of those. Maybe that's why the Menu won't open. I tried to open the Menu of that Public Discussions post in order to edit it, but I couldn't open it.
Now I opened the Public Discussions post itself and then I was able to open all of the menus. So I copied the original link and tried to paste it in above the other Public Discussions post, but I got a message saying a link to that post is already posted on the page. Then the other Public Discussions post returned to normal, like the original post under SITS. But then I couldn't open the gear Menus again and now it shows the Public Discussions post the same way as before, shown up above.
Well, now I was able to open the gear Menu before QDL and I deleted the Public Discussions post copy. Now I'll see if I can get another copy that works right.
Yeah, it seems to be fine again now.
I guess the problem started when I went to the original Public Discussions post under SITS and deleted one of the subposts. Then I went to the copy in my Sandbox and the above problems occurred.*18365

If you can duplicate this problem, reducing it to the bare minimum number of steps, I'd love to have a crack at it. All of what you're describing "should" work, including handling recursion. But you might have stumbled on a way of doing things that I simply have never tried. It's a common problem with developers — they know how the software works, so when they use the software themselves, they go about it in a way that the software can handle, and they don't realize that there are still gotchas in the software. So the developers have to rely on non-developers to figure out ways of breaking things. ;)

Your superscripts are partly obscured by previous lines of text. Is that easy enough to fix?
I nudged it a little bit — did that fix it? If not, what operating system and browser are you using these days (so I can add a special case)?

In the abstract you said "... melt its way through the thickest aspect of the crust above a subduction zone, without an unidentified heat source."

Did you mean to say "identified" instead of "unidentified"?

Also, I wasn't able to use the Add Comment form there.*16417 That's why I came here instead.

I "think" that I fixed that problem. I have been doing some low-level restructuring, to support a new interface, and I guess it was inevitable that something would get broken. ;)

I reworded it. Thanks!
