Re: Root Directory

Is there an easy, quick way to go to the original root directory of a page on this website?
Yes — the quickest way is to do it in the address bar. Each of those numbers corresponds to a step in the path, from the root (i.e., "QDL") to the post in question (in your case, the "Public Discussions" folder). As you have seen, if you paste a link somewhere else, now you have a new way of getting to something, and thus there is a new path. So you want to find the original path, and here's the trick: remove all of the other numbers from the address, except the last one, and then hit the [enter] key so that QDL refreshes the page. So if the path is...

?top=4741-4436-7188

...change it to...

?top=7188

When QDL sees that the path isn't specified, it will fill one in for you, and this will be the original path (typically where the item was created in the first place). Of course, that might not be where you found the item — you might have pasted a link from a secondary location, but QDL will find the actual original.

If you want to find all of the paths, click the gear icon, and next to Metadata, click "edit" (or "more" if you don't have edit rights). In the "Parents" section, all of the paths will be shown. If you have edit rights to the item, and you want to set the original path, click the radio button next to it. When you submit the form, that path will get designated as the original path.
