Abstract:    The yearly distributions of solar wind bulk speeds during the years 1962–1970 have been investigated and are found to be remarkably constant from year to year. There is no tendency for the solar wind speed to increase with increasing solar activity. High speeds (in excess of about 550 km sec−1) were more commonly observed near solar minimum than near solar maximum. For most years the average solar wind velocity was near 400 km sec−1.
