Loop foot prints and coronal funnels...
page 888 shows the structure of the loop footprints and well as where the solar wind starts. I was reading in a book on cathode phenomena that the reason cathode structures have this shape is because of the density of the material carrying the current.. As the current exits the densier material into the plasma it forms this shape due to the requirement of having to have more plasma to carry the same amount of current....

So can a guess be made about the underlying matter from the ratio of coronal tube to footprint?
