They made it to the edge of the wilderness.
They turned back. The Egyptian army came out to meet them. But the pharaoh fought on the side of the exiles, who prevailed.
The Song of the Sea, and then on to Shur, Marah, and Elim.
From Elim into the Sinai, with a mention of quail, and then the manna.
More manna, and then the plague of the quail.
Caleb & Hoshea taunt the exiles into a rout at the hands of the Amalekites & Canaanites.
Aaron & Miriam criticize Moses for marrying a Cushite woman (i.e., Ankhesenamun in ).
There are two stories involving thirst, and then Moses striking a rock and getting water out of it, and then a confrontation with Esau. In Exodus, they had to fight Amalek, grandson of Esau, at Rephidim, while in Numbers, Jacob negotiated with Esau at Kadesh Barnea, and they turned away from Esau's soldiers.
