How come there are more peculiar galaxies in the distant past, and more spirals now?
If the Universe was truly in a steady state, we'd expect just more of the same as we look further into the past. Of course, this doesn't necessarily support the Big Bang hypothesis (i.e., that all of the matter was once far more consolidated), but it does demonstrate that the Universe is still evolving.
