The
Healthy Sexual Relationships section mentioned that we have to strive to be decent people, and to be considerate of the needs of others, if we are to be fulfilled. Then some of the paradoxes were described. But the topic is actually a good deal more complex than could be fully treated just in that section, so here we continue the analysis.
Another peculiarity is that the sex organs have a close physiological relationship with organs associated with the excretion of waste products from the digestive tract. In fact, in the entire animal kingdom, only human females have an orifice just for sex, while in all other animals (including human males), orifices do double (or triple) duty, facilitating sex as well as urination and/or defecation. The similarities among these functions have led to confusion concerning the differences. Quite obviously, digestive waste products are toxic, and must be handled in a sanitary way. And while urination and defecation are best done in private, fornication is best done with a partner.
Still, these physically related bodily processes have an associated psychological connection, and exploring it leads to a richer insight into the nature of sexual ecstasy. To highlight the similarities, let's think of the fluids associated with sex to be a type of waste product that we are meant to expel on a regular basis. And what is the healthy way of thinking of such processes?
Our bodies are God's temples. So why do our bodies store these toxic wastes? It is not to sully the temples, but rather, to keep them clean, and to give us the opportunity to jettison the waste at an appropriate time. So we believe that we are meant to urinate, defecate, and fornicate, all on a regular basis, to rid our bodies of toxic chemicals that would otherwise make us sick. In the case of fornication, there is no known physical disease that results from abstinence, but we believe that mental illnesses can get started this way, leading to obsession with sex, a reduction in the rationality of unrelated thought processes, and ultimately, to engaging in unhealthy acts out of desperation. Gluttony is a sin, and asceticism that leads to gluttony is a sin, because of the outcome. So we think of sexual fluids as harmful toxins that our bodies store temporarily, that need to be unloaded regularly, lest they infect our minds.
As time passes, the urge to expel the toxic waste accumulates. God reminds us to delay the expulsion until healthy circumstances can be established, at which time God's requirements can be relaxed. Herein we have found that the release can take on a Satanic nature. There is a lot of confusion about this, and it needs to be directly addressed. When clean, healthy people decide to get raunchy, they might think that they have entered into Satan's realm. If they become obsessed with sex, they might think that Satan is luring them away from God, and the temptation might become overwhelming. They might wonder why Satan seems to deliver such intense pleasure as to challenge the very validity of God, who seems to deprive us of such pleasures, or at the very least, doesn't seem to help much. Therein they might lose their faith in God, which would be wrong. God never said that we couldn't experience pleasure — God merely encourages us to do it in a healthy way. In the end, we let fly, which is definitely Satanic. But we should remember that Satan is stupid. He would have us do it anywhere and everywhere, including in unhealthy circumstances. In the moment of release, we lose concern for such issues, and thus we indulge in Satanic thoughts. But in a well contrived circumstance, nobody gets hurt. If we abstain until both partners are ready for it, and with a few simple precautions, we can totally let go, and there won't be much of a mess to clean up, nor will there be the risk of getting sick. So Satan gets his due, and he is stupid enough to think that he captured our souls, while God was actually still in control, having guaranteed that no harm would come of it. In other words, we cheat Satan, and we get away with it, and God smiles on us approvingly. There is no harm in that, as long as we call it what it is. The release is Satanic, but that shouldn't lessen anyone's faith in God. Properly emptying a garbage can is an act of cleanliness, which is a relief of sorts, and that's the same type of satisfaction that we feel in an intimate release — it feels good because it's the expulsion of nasty stuff. Such is God's way.
Afterwards, that which had seemed so beautiful just a moment prior now seems disgusting. Once freed of our desires, we see things how they really are, and what we just did was actually disgusting. This is when we are closest to God, who sees everything. Furthermore, God sees the work that remains to be done, and this is why we see a mess that needs to be cleaned up. God does not see perfection through faulty eyes — He sees faults through perfect eyes. So in the aftermath of sex, we see through God's eyes. We must learn to acknowledge what we see in such moments, because this is when God speaks most clearly to us. Done well, the mess is easy to clean up, and we are left with no Satanic obsession. We let God fill our souls, and we pay attention to what he tells us.
We have further observed that when we are being truly decent, looking at the people around us for who they actually are, and figuring out what they need to be healthier, we are sometimes distracted by erotic sensations. We believe this to be Satan attempting to prevent us from being decent. When we are focusing on our own desires, we see the world with a self-centric distortion, which makes it harder to be good. It is only with perspective over ourselves that we can accomplish something in this world. Erotic sensations cancel that perspective, so this is Satan vying with God for control over our souls. We can put such distractions out of our minds temporarily, until they can be handled appropriately, which is God's way. But the nuisance of inappropriate arousal is no reason to stop doing good work. Nor is it any reason to think that Satan is more fun. Satan never expended anything that God hadn't first saved. So all of the potential for enjoyment comes from God.
