Many statements are predicated on a world view. Put another way, they are theory-dependent. One of the jobs of a theory is to wrangle data into an intelligible form. Then anomalies are treated within the framework on the theory. Hence the treatment cannot be evaluated as an isolated statement — if you didn't already buy into the theory, the sub-topic is meaningless. Much time is wasted in debates where people interpret statements within their own frameworks, where the meaning is different, not appreciating the theory-dependent nature of those statements.
